Owning the Gypsy Cafe for the last 11 years was a designers dream. I got to put all of my favorite things into my sweet cafe and it was my second home. Not to be forgotten now that we have had to close the doors, I am still proud of this space as it was always a joyful experience for both customers and my wonderful gypsy family. I am heading back into design of other restaurants and projects but my heart is still missing our crew and friends. Keep in touch if you need anything I might be able to help you with or just to say hi.
General Store was back to Shawn’s roots
In 1994 Shawn opened her first store in North Beach on Union St. in San Francisco. Designing and building custom furniture out of architectural salvage she added retail to her bustling restaurant design portfolio. For the holidays while hoping to find new kitchen staff to keep the Gypsy open she ran a holiday General Store and Pie Bar to keep Main Street lively. Sadly no workers were found to keep our Gypsy open so we closed permanently December 24 2022. Miss you already.
Keith Greeninger Concert August 18th 7pm
I heard Keith Greeninger a few years back and always wanted to do a show. And what a show it was. Keith brought along Joel Rafael who played some sweet Woody Guthrie tunes and then Keith sang his heart out from his new cd Human Citizen. It was an amazing evening of music and the as always the local crowd was captivated. The Gypsy was a very sweet venue for small live music events and over the years we have had some great shows with some great local talent.
Spring Fever
Its almost Spring again and a year ago I was still serving our Made from Scratch local breakfast and lunch menu daily. We were also still serving our great brunch specials on the weekends at our Gypsy Cafe. We had added new beers on tap and also some new great local wines for our upcoming Dinner menu. Our house Bloody Marys and our fresh squeezed Mimosas were always in demand for brunch on the weekends and our cozy interior was still full of Fresh flowers and things to amuse.
Dinners were coming back on Fridays trying to fill the void created by losing our neighbors K&L Bistro and East West Cafe on Main Street. We looked forward to seeing you at the Gypsy and hoped you would dine with us soon. And Now as I sit across town hearing of more and more closures, I know its still hard for people to understand there just aren’t enough workers or customers to make life normal again. Missing life as we knew it but hoping to design something near you soon.
